2015, Earthen Architecture Design Competition
Personal project
The competetion subject is remodeling, community, and earth.
The site used as factory of silkwarm will be recreated in the earthen architecture school.
I suggest the earthen architecture school with local residents through a trace of the factory, mulberry field.
Also, I propose new possibility of the earth using a property of matter the earth has.
SITE ANALYSIS
The site was a factory producing cocoons. Now it lose the function and play a role as the Korean Earthen Architecture School. So mulberry field used as food of silkworm is abandoned. The mulberry harvested from the field is used as ingredient and has high potential for utilization. Also, it is a appropriate local food of the Wanju-gun. Although a small number of people is living around the site, the town hall and the library are factors getting people together. The west side of the site is not accessible by abandoned buildings. The only way to go to the site is from east. But village people could access through the mulberry field which is close now.
PROCESS
The building doesn't need to expose its entrance since it was only used for producing cocoons.
Creating a new road crissing the mullberry field could expose the entrance and have a increase in applicability of the field.
Extending corridor existed at the building could improve connection of the mulberry field in front of the site and applicability of the vacant ground. New sub-corridor prevents the congestion between visitors and staffs.
Roof space connected with ground offers distinctive views : extensive mulberry field, antique tiled roof, and new roof garden.

Eccess space remembers trace of those who visit here with earth. The remembrance collected offers new image
Earth in the roof garden is connected with the windows below. And we could see activity of this school in the room through the earth. Beside, It function as a drain.
